DPF problems, symptoms and fixes
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is best described as the “ticking time bomb” in most modern diesel. In fact, it’s a failure to correctly regenerate that is the cause of most diesel particulate filter issues: they become blocked, which increases exhaust emissions and stifles engine performance.
Moreover, the whole reason the Diesel Particulate Filter came along was to clean up the diesel car. Besides, the emissions from diesel cars are a big concern worldwide. Thanks to DPF technology, diesel cars are much cleaner.
Therefore, DPF’s are great for the environment. However, they are a right pain when they go wrong. Lastly, DPF regeneration, repairs and new replacements are seriously expensive and can lead to some vehicles becoming scrapped.
