Why Every Euro 4–6 Truck in Singapore Needs AdBlue®

All diesel trucks and commercial vehicles meeting Euro 4, Euro 5, or Euro 6 emission standards fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems require a continuous supply of AdBlue® to operate. In Singapore, LTA mandates these standards for heavy diesel vehicles, making AdBlue® as essential as diesel itself.

Running low on AdBlue® triggers a series of increasingly severe warnings, culminating in engine derate or failure to restart — a significant operational and compliance risk for fleet operators.

Stage 1 Warning (25% tank)

Dashboard warning light activates. No performance impact yet — but you should refill within the next 2,000–3,000km.

Stage 2 Warning (10% tank)

Audible alert and persistent warning. Refill urgently. Some vehicles begin mild torque reduction.

Stage 3 — Tank Empty

Engine power severely reduced (derate to 20–40%) or vehicle will not restart after engine off. Immediate refill required.

Compliance Risk

Operating a derated SCR vehicle on Singapore roads risks LTA inspection failure. Ensure AdBlue® is always above 25% before departing the depot.

How Much AdBlue® Does a Truck Use?

AdBlue® consumption is typically 3–7% of diesel fuel volume. For a heavy truck consuming 30L of diesel per 100km, expect 0.9–2.1L of AdBlue® per 100km. Actual consumption varies by engine load, driving cycle, and vehicle make.

Fleet AdBlue® Management Best Practices

  1. Monitor tank levels daily — Build AdBlue® level checks into your pre-trip inspection checklist alongside diesel and tyre pressure.
  2. Set a minimum refill threshold — Never let AdBlue® drop below 25%. Set fleet policy to refill at 30–35%.
  3. Use bulk depot storage — 210L drums or 1,000L IBC tanks at your depot eliminate retail top-ups and reduce per-litre cost by 30–45%.
  4. Track consumption per vehicle — Unusual spikes in AdBlue® consumption can signal SCR system issues. Track monthly per vehicle.
  5. Store correctly — AdBlue® degrades faster in heat. Singapore depots should store in shaded, ventilated areas and use within 6 months of production.
  6. Never dilute or substitute — Never use water, urea solution, or off-spec fluid. SCR catalyst replacement (SGD 3,000–8,000) is not worth any short-term saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy AdBlue® in bulk for my Singapore truck fleet?

Yes. AceRev supplies AdBlue® in 210L drums and 1,000L IBC format for fleet depots across Singapore. Scheduled delivery programmes are available for high-volume customers. WhatsApp +65 9776 9086 to arrange.

Which truck brands require AdBlue® in Singapore?

All major commercial truck brands operating Euro 4–6 SCR engines require AdBlue®, including Mercedes-Benz Actros, Volvo FH/FM, Scania R/S, MAN TGX, DAF XF, Hino 500/700, and Isuzu Giga series.

How do I calculate my fleet’s monthly AdBlue® usage?

Multiply each vehicle’s monthly diesel consumption (litres) by 5% (midpoint of the 3–7% range). Example: a 10-truck fleet each consuming 800L diesel/month = 800L × 5% × 10 = 400L AdBlue® per month. Contact us to size your bulk order.

Does AceRev provide AdBlue® for construction site equipment?

Yes. Off-road Euro Stage V construction equipment (excavators, generators, cranes) with SCR systems also requires ISO 22241 AdBlue®. We supply to both on-road fleets and construction sites.
