What Is AdBlue and Why Do Diesel Trucks Need It?
AdBlue (also called DEF — Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a 32.5% urea-water solution injected into the exhaust stream of Euro 4–6 diesel vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. It converts harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.
In Singapore, AdBlue is mandatory for all Euro 4 and above diesel commercial vehicles. Running out of AdBlue or using off-spec fluid can trigger warning lights, engine derate, and regulatory non-compliance.

What happens if I use poor-quality AdBlue?
Off-spec AdBlue can contaminate your SCR catalyst (a repair costing SGD 3,000–8,000), trigger warning lights, cause engine derate, and risk LTA non-compliance. Always use ISO 22241 certified AdBlue.
How much AdBlue does a diesel truck use?
Typically 3–7% of diesel consumption. A truck using 50L of diesel per 100km will consume 1.5–3.5L of AdBlue per 100km. We can help you calculate the right supply volume for your fleet.
Can I store AdBlue long-term?
AdBlue has a shelf life of 6–12 months depending on storage temperature. Keep below 25°C and away from direct sunlight. In Singapore’s heat, aim to use within 6 months. Contact us for a free validity check on older stock.
